We were delighted to join the wonderful team at Graham Care, Hawkinge House to deliver a seated exercise session using The Shuffler® — a simple, enjoyable way to keep lower limbs moving while seated.
Movement should be accessible to everyone, regardless of age, mobility level, or confidence. That’s exactly what this session was about.
Why Seated Exercise Matters
In care environments, maintaining gentle, consistent lower-limb movement can be challenging. Many residents:
- Spend extended periods seated
- Have reduced confidence in standing exercise
- Prefer activities that feel social and enjoyable rather than clinical
Seated movement sessions offer a safe, inclusive way to encourage circulation, coordination, and leg engagement — all while remaining comfortable and supported.
The Session at Graham Care
From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. Residents gathered with curiosity and enthusiasm, ready to try something new.
Using The Shuffler®, participants were able to:
- Engage their legs in a smooth, seated gliding motion
- Exercise at their own pace
- Join in as a group, creating a shared experience
What stood out most wasn’t just the movement — it was the smiles, the laughter, and the conversations happening during the session.
This wasn’t “exercise” in the traditional sense. It felt more like a social activity with the added benefit of gentle physical engagement.
A Social Approach to Movement
One of the biggest successes of the session was how naturally it fitted into the care home environment. Residents remained seated, supported, and relaxed, yet actively involved.
Staff feedback highlighted:
- How easy the Shuffler® was to introduce
- How quickly residents understood the movement
- How inclusive the session felt
Importantly, everyone could participate at their own comfort level.
Looking Ahead
We are proud to be working alongside forward-thinking care providers like Graham Care who recognise that movement doesn’t have to be complicated to be effective.
Sometimes, it’s about creating small, consistent opportunities to keep people engaged, moving, and connected.
Thank you to the team and residents for such a positive and uplifting session. We look forward to many more.
