At Trainor Jim, we’re always encouraged when organisations focused on supporting people to live well recognise the value of simple, everyday movement.
Recently, Myfolks shared a thoughtful LinkedIn post about the pillars of living well as we age — highlighting sleep, nutrition, social connection, and movement as key elements of maintaining wellbeing and independence later in life.
Movement was the focus of their post, and they highlighted The Shuffler® as an example of how simple innovation can help people stay active, even when mobility becomes more challenging.
A Simple Idea to Keep People Moving
Myfolks described The Shuffler®, created by Dr Jim Kelly and Lee Trainor, as a lightweight, portable device designed to help people keep their legs moving from a seated position.
They noted that the device is deliberately straightforward:
- No electronics
- Lightweight and portable
- Easy to use anywhere
Simply place your feet on the device and shuffle.
It’s a small action, but one that can help introduce more movement into everyday routines.
A Personal Reflection
One of the most powerful parts of the Myfolks post was a personal reflection from the author, who shared that seeing The Shuffler® made them think about their father.
When walking became more difficult for him, finding ways to stay active was not always easy. The author felt that something as simple as The Shuffler® could have provided a way for him to keep moving and enjoy that sense of achievement.
They even imagined him happily using it while watching the popular quiz show The Chase — a reminder that movement can fit naturally into everyday life.
Introducing The Shuffler® to Myfolks Clients
Following their experience trying the device, Myfolks shared that they plan to introduce The Shuffler® to their clients where appropriate and are looking forward to seeing how people respond to using it.
They also shared something many people tell us after trying it for the first time — once you start shuffling, it can become surprisingly enjoyable.
As the post described it, the movement can feel “really addictive”, creating a sense of positive momentum that encourages people to keep moving.
Movement as Part of a Longer Health span
The Myfolks post also highlighted an important idea: living well for longer isn’t about focusing on just one aspect of health.
Sleep, nutrition, social connection, and movement all work together to support what many people now call healthspan — the years of life spent feeling active and engaged.
We’re delighted that Myfolks recognised The Shuffler® as a simple way to support one of those pillars: movement.
And sometimes, movement really can begin with something as simple as a shuffle.
